What does AQA GCSE Geography cover?

Paper 1 (Living with the physical environment) covers the challenge of natural hazards, the living world and physical landscapes in the UK. Paper 2 (Challenges in the human environment) covers urban issues and challenges, the changing economic world and the challenge of resource management. That's around 10 case studies in total.

A practical way to learn each one is to memorise around 5 key facts per case study (location, date, scale, two specific consequences or features). Short, specific facts beat long descriptions every time, because they're easier to recall under exam pressure and they're what examiners actually reward.

What do I need to know for fieldwork and the pre-release on Paper 3?

Paper 3 is the applied paper, and it has two distinct sections to prepare for.

The fieldwork section asks you about the two enquiries you actually carried out in school (typically one physical and one human). You need to know your enquiry questions, the methods you used to collect data, why you chose those methods, how you presented and analysed the data, and your conclusions. You can also be asked generic fieldwork skills questions about an unfamiliar enquiry, which test the same skills applied to a new scenario.

The pre-release issue evaluation is the bit that often catches students out. AQA publishes a pre-release booklet around 12 weeks before the exam, with sources on a geographical issue (a contested decision, a development project, an environmental management problem). You can take an annotated copy in with you and you're expected to make a justified decision in the exam itself.

The key thing on the pre-release is that you have time to prepare properly. Read it carefully, work out the arguments for and against each option, plan rough answers, then in the exam use specific evidence from the booklet to justify whichever decision you make.
