Best iGCSE schools in India (2026 national roundup)

iGCSEParent Guides9 min readBy Amadeus Carnegie

India's international school scene sits alongside a very large national system dominated by CBSE and ICSE, and the iGCSE occupies a specific niche within it: a Grade 9-10 international qualification that most families use as a stepping stone into the IB Diploma or Cambridge A Levels. Cambridge (CAIE) is the clear default here. According to Cambridge International, more than 700 schools in India offer Cambridge programmes, while Pearson Edexcel iGCSE has very thin visibility nationally and does not feature on the front page of any school in this roundup.

Well-regarded Cambridge iGCSE schools in India span the major metros and a handful of hill-station boarding schools. This roundup is curated based on public sources rather than a hard performance league table. It leans on reputational signals such as EducationWorld's India School Rankings, Cambridge visibility, Outstanding Learner awards and each school's own confirmed board affiliation. Fees at the top of the Indian international market are almost always on enquiry, so we have pointed you to admissions offices for current pricing.

How we curated the list

This roundup is a curated best-of drawn from public sources, not a hard performance ranking. Four inputs shaped it.

First, the EducationWorld India School Rankings 2025-26 (EWISR), which is India's most widely cited annual K-12 rankings exercise. It draws on a nationwide field survey of around 9,500 respondents across 34 cities, scoring schools on 14 to 15 parameters including teacher competence, academic reputation, co-curricular provision, individual attention and infrastructure. For 2025-26 EducationWorld introduced a new "Ivy League" tier for schools that consistently dominate across parameters, and its public commentary flagged names such as Dhirubhai Ambani International, The Cathedral and John Connon School, The International School Bangalore, Inventure Academy, Oberoi International and Vasant Valley. Of those, the iGCSE-relevant subset is DAIS, Cathedral, TISB and Inventure.

Second, Cambridge International's own "Find a Cambridge school" directory was used to confirm active CAIE affiliation. Third, Cambridge Outstanding Learner Awards were used as a signal of consistent iGCSE performance at cohort level. Finally, every school's board mix was verified on its own live website. Where a school primarily runs IB and treats iGCSE as a Grade 9-10 bridge to the Diploma, we have called that out inline. Aggregator lists were used only to surface candidates, never as a source of truth.

Top iGCSE schools across India by region

Top iGCSE schools across India include the following, grouped by city.

Mumbai

Dhirubhai Ambani International School (DAIS) in Bandra is widely regarded as India's leading international day school. It offers ICSE, Cambridge iGCSE and the IB Diploma, and EducationWorld's 2025-26 commentary singles it out as an Ivy League contender. The school runs from LKG through Grade 12. The Cathedral and John Connon School is one of the oldest schools in India, founded in 1860, and features prominently in EducationWorld's Ivy League tier commentary. It runs ICSE and ISC on the national side plus Cambridge iGCSE, IB Diploma and Advanced Placement on the international side, with iGCSE taught at the Senior School (Standards 8-10) in Fort, Mumbai.

JBCN International School operates across five Mumbai campuses (Borivali, Parel, Oshiwara, Chembur and Mulund), with the board mix varying by site. It runs Cambridge iGCSE and A Level alongside the IB and, at some campuses, ICSE. JBCN students have repeatedly won Cambridge Outstanding Learner Awards, including Top in the World in Mathematics, which makes JBCN probably the most consistent Cambridge award winner in Mumbai.

Aditya Birla World Academy (ABWA) in Tardeo runs a Cambridge pathway (CIPP, Lower Secondary and iGCSE at Grades 9-10) followed by IBDP and A Level at senior level. It features in EducationWorld's top-Mumbai international school commentary and reports a teacher-student ratio of around 1:8. Note that the current website foregrounds the senior programmes, so the iGCSE subject list is worth confirming directly.

Bombay International School (BIS) is a small South Mumbai flagship at Babulnath, running Cambridge iGCSE at Grades 9-10 as a four-year pathway into the IB Diploma at senior school. It is distinct from Bombay Cambridge International School in Andheri. Admissions at mail@bis.edu.in.

Delhi

The British School, New Delhi in Chanakyapuri runs a British curriculum end-to-end, from Early Years through Cambridge iGCSE at Key Stage 4 and into the IB Diploma or IB Career-Related Programme at Key Stage 5. It has around 1,270 students representing roughly 60 nationalities, which reflects the strong diplomatic-family enrolment its location tends to attract. Admissions at admissions@british-school.org.

Bangalore

The International School Bangalore (TISB) in Whitefield is a day and boarding school with more than 320 boarders. It runs the IB (PYP and DP) with Cambridge iGCSE at Grades 9-10 as a bridge into the Diploma, and is consistently cited alongside DAIS in EducationWorld's top-tier commentary.

Canadian International School (CIS) in Yelahanka runs Cambridge Lower Secondary into iGCSE at Grades 9-10 and then the IB Diploma. Established in 1996, it was the first school in Bangalore authorised by the IBO for the Diploma and, per its own site, the first 1:1 iPad school in South India.

Inventure Academy on Whitefield-Sarjapur runs Cambridge iGCSE and A/AS Levels alongside ICSE and ISC, with students choosing their board at Grade 9 and following a common curriculum up to Grade 8. Founded in 2005, it was among the schools elevated to EducationWorld's new Ivy League category for 2025-26. A second campus opened at Yeshwanthpur in 2023.

Chennai

M.CT.M. Chidambaram Chettyar International School (MCTM) in Mylapore is Chennai's most prominent standalone iGCSE and IB Diploma international school. Founded in 2009, it was the first school in Chennai to offer the IB Diploma and introduced Cambridge programmes for Grades 6-10 the following year.

Kolkata

Modern High School International (MHSI) on Syed Amir Ali Avenue is Kolkata's clearest iGCSE-plus-IBDP flagship. It is the co-ed international wing of the historic Modern High School for Girls (a Birla-family foundation established in 1952) and was formally inaugurated by Dr Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan in December 2023. The campus is IGBC platinum-certified.

Pune

Mercedes-Benz International School (MBIS) in Hinjewadi, Pune, is one of very few Indian schools that runs Cambridge end-to-end, taking students through iGCSE at Grades 9-10 and into Cambridge AS and A Levels rather than the IB. Enrolment historically skews toward expat and Mercedes-Benz-associated families. Families should request current fee information directly from admissions.

Symbiosis International School (SIS) in Viman Nagar sits within the Symbiosis group and runs IB PYP and MYP into Cambridge iGCSE at Grades 9-10, then the IB Diploma at senior. The school reports roughly 916 students and 109 teachers (a 1:12 ratio), 27 nationalities enrolled and 100% university placement including QS World Top 100 outcomes.

Jaipur

Jayshree Periwal International School (JPIS) on Ajmer Road follows an IB PYP, MYP, iGCSE at Grades 9-10 and IBDP structure, with Cambridge International accreditation and a residential boarding option. It is consistently cited as one of the top Cambridge schools in Rajasthan.

Neerja Modi School in Mansarovar is one of the few schools in Rajasthan that runs CBSE, Cambridge iGCSE and the IB Diploma in parallel. Founded in 2001, it features in EducationWorld's Jaipur commentary as a top international school, and its own alumni placement claims include LSE, Stanford, Princeton, Imperial, the IITs and Delhi University.

Ooty and Mussoorie

Good Shepherd International School (GSIS) in Ooty is a fully residential 150-acre campus at around 7,000 feet in the Nilgiris. It runs Cambridge iGCSE, the IB Continuum (PYP, MYP and DP), ICSE and ISC across roughly 800 students from more than 30 countries. Families should confirm current-year figures with admissions.

Woodstock School in Landour, Mussoorie, sits at 6,500 feet in the Himalayas and was founded in 1854, making it one of Asia's oldest residential international schools. It currently runs Cambridge iGCSE at Grades 9-10 and Advanced Placement at senior level, leading to the Woodstock School Diploma; the school is publicly phasing out its historic IB provision in favour of the diploma model. Around 500 students, with boarding from Grade 6.

Choosing a school with Cognito

Cognito is a UK-based revision platform used by families preparing for iGCSE and GCSE. If your child is heading into a Cambridge iGCSE cohort at any of the schools above, Cognito's iGCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science and Maths content maps to the Cambridge specifications, with topic-tagged past-paper questions, flashcards, custom quizzes and worked video lessons for the sciences and Maths.

Two practical points worth knowing. First, Cognito's subscription covers every subject on the platform (GCSE and A-Level) rather than a single science, which tends to suit families whose children take iGCSE across multiple subjects. Second, it works well alongside the taught curriculum: students typically use it for consolidation, timed practice and revision rather than as a primary teaching resource. If your prospective school runs Cambridge iGCSE at Grade 9-10, it is worth checking with them whether they already point families toward a revision platform before you commit to one.
