Best iGCSE schools in Pune (2026 guide)
Pune's iGCSE market has a fairly clear shape once you look past the aggregator lists. It's a Cambridge town. The schools on our shortlist offer the Cambridge (CAIE) IGCSE pathway, and none of the schools we checked confirmed a live Pearson Edexcel IGCSE route on their own website. If you're moving to Pune specifically for Edexcel, you'll likely need to look further afield or plan around Cambridge instead.
The other useful thing to know upfront is where the schools sit on a map. Pune's Cambridge schools cluster into a few recognisable pockets. The west corridor along Balewadi, Baner, Wakad, Tathawade and Hinjawadi picks up families working in the IT parks. The east and central belt runs through Viman Nagar, Kalyani Nagar and Yerwada. The south-east side covers Hadapsar, Amanora, Undri and Mohammadwadi. The south sits around Kondhwa and NIBM. And for boarding, the rural Mulshi area (Bhukum, Aamby Valley) is where the residential campuses are based. Knowing which pocket you're in usually cuts the shortlist in half before you've even started ringing round.
How to shortlist an iGCSE school in Pune
A few practical filters tend to be more useful than aggregator rankings.
Start with commute. Pune traffic can turn a 10 km school run into an hour each way, so most families end up choosing within their own quadrant of the city. If you're in Viman Nagar, Symbiosis is on your doorstep. If you're in Wakad or Tathawade, Podar Wakad (Cambridge) is right there. If you're in Kondhwa or NIBM, RIMS and VIBGYOR NIBM are the natural options.
Then think about continuity. Some schools run only IGCSE and Cambridge Advanced (Boston World, RIMS). Others carry students straight into an IB Diploma at Grade 11 (Symbiosis, Chatrabhuj Narsee, International School Aamby). If you know you want IB Diploma later, a school that already runs one saves an application round.
Finally, decide day vs boarding early. Pune has genuine residential options in Mulshi (Indus International, International School Aamby), but most families here go day-school. Boarding tends to be a specific choice rather than a fallback.
Cambridge-affiliated schools across the west, east and south corridors of Pune include
West corridor: Balewadi, Wakad, Tathawade, Chinchwad
Podar International School Wakad (Cambridge) sits at Bhumkar Chowk in Tathawade / Wakad. It's part of the Podar Education Network (165 schools nationally) and runs Cambridge IGCSE at Grade 9-10, with junior grades stretching back to Pre-Nursery. One thing to watch: there's a separate Podar CBSE campus in Wakad, so make sure the enquiry links to the CIE campus (podareducation.org/school/wakadcie), not the CBSE one.
Bharati Vidyapeeth Rabindranath Tagore School of Excellence (BVRTSE) is on Mitcon Road in Balewadi. It runs a Cambridge pathway from Nursery through AS/A Level, which makes it one of the more complete Cambridge-only ranges in Pune. Aggregator sources cite an establishment date of 2017. Facilities include a half-Olympic swimming pool and RFID child tracking.
Elpro International School (Chinchwad) runs Cambridge IGCSE at Grade 9-10 alongside CBSE and IB (DP + CP). Elpro's CAIE affiliation number is IN214. A quick note on which campus is which: the Cambridge stream is at Chinchwad, not Hinjawadi. Elpro's Hinjawadi campus runs CBSE and Elpro First Steps only.
East and central: Viman Nagar, Wagholi
Symbiosis International School (SIS), on the Ishanya Campus off Symbiosis Road in Viman Nagar, runs a full IB PYP, IB MYP, Cambridge IGCSE (Grades 9-10), then IB Diploma pathway, which is probably the most integrated route available in Pune. It's an IB World School with students from 27 nationalities and a day + boarding option. Established 2005.
C.P. Goenka International School (Wagholi) is part of the C.P. Goenka network (with sister campuses in Mumbai and Thane). The Wagholi campus runs Cambridge IGCSE, though the specific grade range at Wagholi isn't laid out in detail on the official site, so it's worth confirming by direct enquiry.
South-east: Hadapsar, Amanora, Undri
Chatrabhuj Narsee School (CNS) Amanora is in Amanora Park Town, Hadapsar. It runs a Cambridge pathway from Early Years through IGCSE at Grades 9-10, then switches to IB Diploma for Grades 11-12. The school offers the Cambridge International Certificate in Education (ICE) pathway, which asks students to pick from five subject groups (languages, humanities, sciences, mathematics, creative/professional). ICE requires at least seven subjects meeting the group rules.
Boston World School is on Bellagio in Undri. It's positioned as a Cambridge-only pathway school, running IGCSE (ages 14-16) and Cambridge Advanced (AS/A Level, two-year post-Std X). The school describes over 70 subjects available at Cambridge IGCSE. Day school; no boarding confirmed.
South: Kondhwa, NIBM
RIMS International School and Junior College on NIBM Post Office Road in Kondhwa was one of the earliest schools in Pune to establish the Cambridge IGCSE and A Level pathway (2005). It runs Cambridge Primary, Lower Secondary, IGCSE Grades 9-10 and Cambridge Advanced (Grades 11-12), with an Early Years wing (RIMS CUBS) from age 2+. Student-teacher ratio is roughly 22:1. There's also an Undri campus.
VIBGYOR High NIBM is the Cambridge campus of the VIBGYOR High group in Pune. Worth flagging clearly: VIBGYOR's other Pune campuses (Balewadi, Hinjawadi, Magarpatta, Yerwada) run CBSE and CISCE, not Cambridge. NIBM is the one to enquire at if you want the Cambridge stream.
Rural boarding: Mulshi
Indus International School, Pune is at Bhukum in Mulshi. It's a 36-acre residential campus, established 2008, with 350+ boarders across 30+ countries and around 1,100 students in total. The school foregrounds a full IB continuum (PYP, MYP, DP, CP) on its own site. Third-party aggregators also tag Cambridge IGCSE at Grade 9-10, but the school's own site doesn't confirm Cambridge, so we'd suggest checking directly whether Cambridge IGCSE is a live option at the point you enquire.
International School Aamby (ISA) is inside Aamby Valley City in Mulshi district. It's a residential co-ed school running Cambridge IGCSE (Grades 9-10) and IB Diploma (Grades 11-12), covering Grades III to XII. Established 2008. One practical note: the school's official website was returning a parking page when we last checked, so direct enquiry via phone or an aggregator listing is the safer route in.
Where Cognito fits in
If you're weighing up Pune iGCSE schools, one of the harder decisions is what happens outside school hours. Cognito is a Cambridge iGCSE and A Level revision platform used by students in India and internationally, with structured notes, past-paper practice by topic, flashcards and quizzes across the sciences and maths. It's designed to sit alongside a school's own teaching rather than replace it, so students can work through the specification at their own pace, spot the gaps early and go into mocks with a clearer picture of what they know. It works particularly well for families juggling a big commute or lots of after-school activities, where consistent revision time is the tricky bit. A free tier is available if you want to try it before Grade 9 starts.
