Best iGCSE schools in Madurai (2026 guide)

iGCSEParent Guides6 min readBy Tom Mercer

Madurai's iGCSE market is small and still forming. Unlike Chennai, Bengaluru or Hyderabad, top iGCSE schools in Madurai include Vikaasa World School, Mahatma Global Gateway CIE, TIPS Globeducate Madurai and Kalvi Intercontinental School, each with a currently-running Grade 9-10 iGCSE pathway confirmed on their own websites. Every one of them is a day school, and Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) dominates the offer.

If you specifically want Pearson Edexcel International GCSE rather than Cambridge, Kalvi Intercontinental School is the only school in this review confirming a live Edexcel pathway on its own site. Every other school in Madurai is Cambridge-only.

One quick warning before we get into the list. "Cambridge" in a Madurai school name doesn't always mean Cambridge International. Cambridge Group of Schools (K Pudur, Aathikulam, Thiruppalai) is Tamil Nadu State Board affiliated only, and Kalvi Global Matriculation School is a separate State Board campus from Kalvi Intercontinental. Check the board before you enquire.

How to shortlist an iGCSE school in Madurai

With a handful of genuine options in the city, shortlisting is more about fit than volume. A few things worth checking.

Board. Decide whether you want Cambridge (CAIE) or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE. In Madurai, Cambridge is the mainstream choice and Edexcel is available at Kalvi Intercontinental.

Campus you're applying to. Vikaasa has two campuses in Madurai with different boards. The 1969-founded Ponnagaram campus is CISCE (ICSE), while Vikaasa World School at Oomachikulam / Thirumalpuram, established in 2011, is the Cambridge/iGCSE campus. Name the specific campus when you enquire.

Cohort maturity. Some schools list Cambridge on their site but only run Primary and Lower Secondary in practice. Ask directly whether a Grade 10 iGCSE cohort is currently running, when the first cohort sat exams, and how many candidates were entered.

Subject range. Confirm the exact iGCSE subjects on offer, especially if your child wants a language, computer science or a commerce subject alongside the sciences.

A Level pathway. Check whether the school offers Cambridge AS & A Level on the same campus, so your child doesn't have to move again at 16.

The schools

Vikaasa World School (Oomachikulam / Thirumalpuram)

  • Board: Cambridge (CAIE), covering Cambridge International Primary, Lower Secondary (Checkpoint), iGCSE, AS & A Level
  • Location: Veerapandi, Oomachikulam, Madurai – 625014 (7-acre campus)
  • Grades offered: Pre-KG (age 3) through Grade 12
  • Website: vikaasa.org/vikaasa-world-school/

The Vikaasa group was founded in 1969 and was the first ICSE school in Tamil Nadu, as well as the first Cambridge-affiliated institution in Madurai. Vikaasa World School at Oomachikulam was established in 2011 as the group's dedicated Cambridge International campus, separate from the older Ponnagaram campus, which remains ICSE. Full Cambridge subject range across iGCSE and AS/A Level science, commerce and arts streams, plus the ICE (International Certificate of Education) pathway for students entering seven or more papers.

Mahatma Global Gateway CIE

  • Board: Cambridge (CAIE) across Early Years, Primary, Lower Secondary, iGCSE and AS & A Level (a separate CBSE track sits under the wider Mahatma Schools group)
  • Location: E. Rm. E. Rengasamy Educational Foundation Gopalakrishnan Grounds, 273 K.K. Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Madurai – 625020
  • Grades offered: Early Years through A Level
  • Website: cambridge.mahatmaschools.com

The Mahatma Schools group was founded in 1983 in Madurai; the Cambridge (CIE) arm launched in 2017. iGCSE subject offer includes English First Language, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Global Perspectives, Business Studies, Accounting, Economics, Tamil, Hindi, French, German and Computer Science. AS & A Level runs on the same campus.

TIPS Globeducate Madurai (The Indian Public School)

  • Board: Cambridge (CAIE) for iGCSE Grades 9-10, IB for Early Years and Primary Years, and CBSE, all under the Globeducate umbrella
  • Location: Near Vikram Hospital, Sivagangai Road, Karuppayurani, Madurai – 625020 (main campus, plus a city campus for early years)
  • Grades offered: Pre-KG through Grade 11 currently, with the AS & A Level pathway building out
  • Website: madurai.tipsglobeducate.com

Part of the global Globeducate network of schools across India, Europe and beyond. Day school. iGCSE subject offer includes English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, ICT, Economics, Hindi/French and Physical Education.

Kalvi Intercontinental School (Royapuram)

  • Board: Cambridge (CAIE) across Cambridge Primary, Lower Secondary, iGCSE and A Level, and Pearson Edexcel across iPrimary, iLowerSecondary, International GCSE and International Advanced Level. Kalvi Intercontinental is the only school in this review confirming a live Edexcel International GCSE pathway on its own site
  • Location: No 1/132, Nagari Sholavandan Road, Royapuram, Madurai – 625234
  • Grades offered: Early years through Grade 12
  • Website: kalvicambridgeschool.com

Part of the Kalvi Schools group, which runs 10 institutions across Madurai, Theni and Dindigul. The Intercontinental campus itself reports around 500 students and 50+ faculty on its own site. Sports offerings include a Super Kings cricket academy tie-up, a LaLiga football academy and a Jr. NBA basketball programme. Worth stressing again: this is the Cambridge/Edexcel campus, not to be confused with the group's State Board Matriculation campus at Naganakulam.

Triveni International School (Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary)

  • Board: CISCE (ICSE / ISC) as the established track, plus Cambridge International (CIE Centre No: IA 294) for Cambridge Primary and Cambridge Lower Secondary
  • Location: 100 & 101, Ponnagaram Compound, New Jail Road, Arapalayam, Madurai – 625016
  • Grades offered: Nursery to Class 9 currently
  • Website: trivenischool.in

Worth flagging as a Cambridge International-registered centre in Madurai, but a full iGCSE Grade 9-10 cohort is not currently confirmed on the school's own site. If you're planning for 2027-28 or later, it's worth speaking to the school directly about how the Cambridge upper secondary pathway is developing.

Where Cognito fits in

Cognito is a UK-based online learning platform used by schools and families preparing for iGCSE, A Level and GCSE. Content covers Cambridge and Edexcel iGCSE in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths through short concept videos, thousands of exam-style questions and past-paper practice organised by topic.

Because Madurai has only a handful of iGCSE schools, families often supplement school teaching with structured revision at home, particularly in the sciences. Cognito is designed to sit alongside whatever your school is doing rather than replace it: students work through topics at their own pace, then use the question bank and past papers to check understanding before mocks and finals.

There's a free tier so you can try it before deciding whether to subscribe.
