Best iGCSE schools in Mumbai (2026 guide)
Intro
Mumbai's iGCSE landscape is overwhelmingly a Cambridge one. Across the city, the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) pathway sits at the heart of almost every international school offering IGCSE at Grades 9-10. Pearson Edexcel isn't a meaningful IGCSE pathway in the city, at least not at the school level; a couple of schools appear on Pearson tutoring pages for a single Edexcel IGCSE Computer Science option, but their own IGCSE pages describe Cambridge only.
Geographically the market spreads across four broad clusters: South Mumbai (Fort, Marine Drive, Cuffe Parade, Tardeo, Mazgaon, Breach Candy, Lower Parel), the western and central suburbs (Bandra, Andheri, Malad, Borivali, Dahisar, Parel, Chembur, Mulund), the Powai corridor around Hiranandani Gardens, and further north into Thane and across the harbour into Navi Mumbai (Vashi, Kharghar, Nerul).
How to shortlist a school
A few criteria tend to matter more than any glossy prospectus.
Board. Almost all Mumbai iGCSE schools sit on Cambridge (CAIE). If you specifically want Pearson Edexcel, Mumbai is thin at the school level; the authoritative source is Pearson's own India centre list rather than aggregator round-ups. If you're comparing against SSC or ICSE families, be clear on which board Grade 9-10 sits on, several schools run dual-track SSC + Cambridge or ICSE + Cambridge on the same campus.
Fees. Most Mumbai iGCSE schools publish fees "on enquiry" rather than on their official sites. Plan to enquire directly with each shortlisted school and confirm term fees, admission fees and any add-ons.
IB continuation. If you want the option to move into an IB Diploma at Grade 11, several Mumbai schools run Cambridge IGCSE feeding into IB DP on the same campus. Others feed into Cambridge AS & A Levels. It's worth deciding this before Grade 9.
Boarding. Mumbai is predominantly a day-school market. Boarding at the iGCSE stage is rare in the city itself; the practical option worth checking is Singapore International School (SIS) in Dahisar East, which is listed as Mumbai's co-ed international boarding + day school.
The schools by area
Top iGCSE schools in Mumbai include names across South Mumbai, the western and central suburbs, Powai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. Some well-regarded schools across South Mumbai, the suburbs and Thane are grouped below.
South Mumbai
Dhirubhai Ambani International School (DAIS), Bandra Kurla Complex. Cambridge IGCSE at Classes VIII-X, feeding IB Diploma at Classes XI-XII, with an ICSE stream via CISCE alongside. Founded 2003 by the Ambani family and regularly cited as Mumbai's top international day school.
Cathedral and John Connon School, Fort. One of India's oldest private schools, founded in 1860, running Cambridge IGCSE at Standards 9-10, IB Diploma at Grades 11-12, plus AP, and ICSE / ISC via CISCE. Pearson tutoring platforms mention a small Edexcel IGCSE Computer Science option, but the school's own IGCSE page describes only the Cambridge programme, so it's best treated as Cambridge-primary.
HVB Global Academy, Marine Drive. Cambridge-only from Early Years through IGCSE and on into AS & A Levels; no dual-board split. Established 1963 and among the earliest Cambridge-authorised schools in South Mumbai.
Aditya Birla World Academy (ABWA), Tardeo. Cambridge Primary through IGCSE at Grades 9-10, then a choice at senior school between Cambridge A Levels and IB Diploma. Part of the Aditya Birla Education Trust and consistently in top-Mumbai international-school listings.
B.D. Somani International School, Cuffe Parade. Cambridge IGCSE at Class 9-10 and IB Diploma at Class 11-12. Established 2006, roughly 800 students, with a strong college placement record. A sister BDSIS campus operates in Kharghar.
Fazlani L'Academie Globale (FLAG), Mazgaon. Cambridge from primary through IGCSE and on into AS & A Levels. FLAG appears in the IB directory (school code 003077), suggesting historic PYP authorisation, but its current pages describe only the Cambridge pathway, so confirm IB status directly if that matters.
Hill Spring International School (NSS Hill Spring), Tardeo. Cambridge IGCSE at Grades 9-10 combined with IB (PYP in early years/primary and DP at Grades 11-12). The school describes itself as South Mumbai's first IB World School.
DSB International School (Deutsche Schule Bombay), Breach Candy (Garden Campus) and Lower Parel (Euro Campus). Founded 1961 as the German School Bombay, this is Mumbai's oldest international school. English National Curriculum from Foundation Stage to Grade 8, Cambridge IGCSE at Grades 9-10, and IB Diploma at Grades 11-12. Serves families from 32+ nationalities.
Suburban, Central and Powai
JBCN International School, five Mumbai campuses at Borivali, Parel, Oshiwara (Andheri West), Chembur and Mulund. Cambridge Primary through IGCSE and A Levels, plus IB PYP and DP; ICSE at Mulund. Parel is the flagship for Cambridge + IB, established 2011, and is school-reported as ranked #1 in Mumbai for International Curriculum in a Times of India survey.
Bombay Cambridge International School, Andheri West (Amboli) and Andheri East. Cambridge Primary through IGCSE and AS & A Levels, run alongside a Maharashtra State Board pathway on the same campuses. Founded 1993 and among the earlier CAIE-affiliated schools in Mumbai's western suburbs.
Rustomjee Cambridge International School, Dahisar West, Virar West and Thane (Majiwada). A Cambridge-only network: Cambridge Primary through IGCSE and AS & A Levels at Dahisar and Virar, and Nursery through IGCSE at Thane. Part of the Rustomjee property/education group and the only fully CAIE-affiliated multi-campus network in the north-Mumbai/Thane corridor.
Hiranandani Foundation School International (HFS International), Powai. Cambridge Primary and Secondary through IGCSE at Grades 9-10, feeding IB Diploma at Grades 11-12; the affiliated Hiranandani Foundation School runs ICSE separately on the same network. A natural pick for families in the Powai/Hiranandani Gardens area who want Cambridge IGCSE with IB DP progression.
Thane and Navi Mumbai
The Thane end of the corridor is covered by Rustomjee Cambridge International School, Thane at Rustomjee Urbania in Majiwada, which runs Nursery through IGCSE (Grades 1-10), alongside the group's Dahisar and Virar campuses further west and north. In Navi Mumbai, B.D. Somani International School's sister BDSIS campus operates in Kharghar as a companion to the Cuffe Parade flagship. Both are Cambridge-affiliated.
