Best iGCSE schools in Chennai (2026 guide)
If you're looking at an iGCSE education for your child in Chennai, the first thing to know is that the market is overwhelmingly a Cambridge one. Every school on this list is a Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) centre. No Chennai city day school we could verify currently advertises a live Pearson Edexcel iGCSE pathway on its own website, so if a Pearson route matters to you, the nearest option is Hebron School in Ooty (roughly 550km away) rather than anywhere in the city itself.
Geographically, Chennai's iGCSE schools cluster in a handful of areas. The OMR / Rajiv Gandhi Salai corridor from Thoraipakkam through Sholinganallur, Navalur and Kelambakkam is home to much of the IT-belt intake and hosts APL Global, Gateway, JS Global, KC High, Athena and Chettinad Sarvalokaa. The East Coast Road (ECR) picks up British International, Vaels and Akshar Arbol's ECR campus. Central and south Chennai (Mylapore, R.A. Puram, T Nagar, Kodambakkam) covers MCTM, Hari Shree and Akshar Arbol's city campuses, while Porur, Anna Nagar and Kovur cover the north-west corridor.
How to shortlist a school
A few practical checks before you visit.
Confirm the board and the cohort. Every school on this list markets a Cambridge pathway, but a couple are still rolling the programme up through the year groups. Ask whether a Grade 10 iGCSE cohort is currently sitting exams, or whether the programme is being built out from Early Years upwards. It matters for your child's continuity.
Ask about fee transparency. Chennai schools vary in how openly they publish fees. Ask the school directly for the current year's tuition, admission fee, refundable deposit and any additional charges (transport, meals, uniforms) in writing before comparing offers.
Think about post-16. Several schools offer a Cambridge AS & A Level continuation, others move students onto the IB Diploma Programme, and a few offer both. If you already know your child is IB-bound, KC High, MCTM, Akshar Arbol, CPS Global and Anand Singapore (ASIS) all have Cambridge-into-IB pathways.
Check boarding options. Most Chennai iGCSE schools are day schools. Chettinad Sarvalokaa is the notable in-city exception, offering day, weekly and full residential options. For full boarding further afield, Hebron in Ooty is the regional standard.
The schools
Top iGCSE schools in Chennai include the following. Some well-regarded Cambridge-affiliated schools in the city are grouped below by area and pathway.
KC High International School (Navalur, OMR). Cambridge Primary and Secondary 1 into iGCSE for Grades 9-10, then IB Diploma for Grades 11-12. KC High is frequently placed at or near the top of Chennai aggregator ranking lists and has run for around 25 years, offering a dual Cambridge and IB pathway from preschool through Grade 12.
M.CT.M. Chidambaram Chettyar International School (Mylapore). Cambridge Lower Secondary and iGCSE for Grades 6-10, then IB Diploma for Grades 11-12. MCTM was the first school in Chennai to offer the IB Diploma and has been running since 2009.
APL Global School (Thoraipakkam, OMR). Cambridge iGCSE and A Levels, with NIOS as an alternative pathway. APL is a registered Cambridge International Centre and runs experiential programmes alongside the academic curriculum, including Meraki, Farming @ APL and Responsible Citizenship.
Akshar Arbol International School (T Nagar, West Mambalam and ECR/Injambakkam). Cambridge Checkpoint, iGCSE and AS & A Levels alongside the IB Diploma. Akshar Arbol runs three campuses across central Chennai and the ECR corridor, giving it a rare K-12 dual-pathway footprint in the city.
Chettinad Sarvalokaa Education (Kelambakkam, OMR). Cambridge only, from Early Years through iGCSE and into Cambridge AS & A Level. Founded in 2017 on a 10-acre campus within the wider Chettinad Health City, Sarvalokaa is one of the few Chennai iGCSE schools offering day, weekly and full residential options, with a humanistic curriculum that includes Farm & Forest Education and Model UN.
Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam (Raja Annamalaipuram). Cambridge Early Years is rolling out with a pathway toward iGCSE and A Levels, alongside an established ICSE programme. Because the Cambridge cohort is still working up through the year groups, it's worth checking with the school whether a Grade 10 Cambridge cohort is currently examined or whether the pathway is still building.
Gateway The Complete School (GTCS) (Sholinganallur, OMR). Cambridge Primary through iGCSE and AS & A Level at the Sholinganallur campus, with sister campuses in the Gateway group running CBSE and IB. Founded in 2006 by educationalist Dr Anton Cruz, Gateway runs multiple Chennai campuses across the three curricula.
Athena Global School (Karanai, OMR). Cambridge iGCSE at the Chennai campus (the group's Chidambaram and Chengalpattu campuses run CBSE and NIOS). The Cambridge pathway is currently advertised through Grade 10; A Level provision at the Chennai campus isn't confirmed on the site.
Vaels International School (Injambakkam, ECR). Cambridge iGCSE and AS/A Levels alongside CISCE (ICSE and ISC), with the High School campus running Grades 4-12. Vaels sits its Cambridge stream alongside ICSE at the same campus rather than as a separate international school, which suits families who want both options under one roof.
JS Global School (Sholinganallur, OMR). Cambridge only, from Early Years through Primary, Lower Secondary, iGCSE (with 15+ syllabi) and Cambridge AS & A Level. JS Global was established in 2018 and positions itself as a full Cambridge-only pathway from kindergarten to A Level.
Aachi Global School (Anna Nagar and Ayanambakkam). Cambridge from Early Years through iGCSE and AS & A Level at both campuses; the Ayanambakkam campus also runs CBSE. Aachi reports 2,100+ families and 200+ educators across the two sites, and frames Cambridge as the international-university pathway while retaining CBSE for JEE/NEET/CUET candidates.
Anand Singapore International School (ASIS) (Porur). A tri-curriculum school running the Singapore curriculum in Preschool and Primary, Cambridge iGCSE in the Secondary years, and the IB Diploma in Junior College (Grades 11-12). ASIS is a collaboration between the Singapore SIS Group and local Kalasalingam and Anandam Ammal Charities.
