**Show detailed knowledge from multiple areas.** A 6-mark question usually expects you to draw on several Biology concepts or stages of a process. If it's asking you to explain how the circulatory system transports oxygen, for example, you'd need to cover gas exchange in the lungs, haemoglobin binding, the role of red blood cells, and delivery to respiring tissues. The honest answer is: there's no fixed rule, because Cambridge doesn't publish a per-question time allocation for Paper 4 (the Extended Theory paper). The paper is 2 hours long and covers all three sciences, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, in one sitting, so the exact split depends on how many marks each science gets in your particular exam, and that can vary from series to series.

**A rough guide:**

You have 120 minutes for the whole paper. If you spend time proportional to marks, you'd aim for roughly 1 minute per mark. So a 6-mark question gets about 6 minutes, a 2-mark question gets about 2 minutes. That leaves a small buffer at the end for checking.
