Best iGCSE English tutors in Hong Kong (2026 guide)
iGCSE English in Hong Kong is not one subject but three, and the first job for any parent is working out which one your child sits. Most students take Cambridge First Language English (0500) or Pearson Edexcel English Language A or B. Children still building their English take Cambridge English as a Second Language (0510 or the 0511 Count-in Speaking variant). Many international schools also enter students for Cambridge English Literature (0475) or the Edexcel equivalent. The tutor market reflects that split: some centres cover all three tracks, some specialise in First Language and Literature, and only a handful (ITS Education Asia, Bridge Elite, HKETS, TigerCampus and Hudson Academy) confirm ESL as a standalone offering.
Rates and details in this guide were checked at the time of writing (July 2026). Tutor pricing shifts, so it's worth confirming current rates directly with any centre or platform you shortlist.
Before you hire a tutor: try Cognito first
Before you commit to paying HK2,000 an hour for an English tutor, it's worth mapping your child's gaps first. A tutor with a clear brief on which areas need work is far more useful than one figuring it out session by session, at your expense.
Cognito's free online platform is one way to do that. Working through the iGCSE English topics and their quizzes flags which areas need work, comprehension, writing, unseen analysis, set-text response, so students can walk into that first tutor session knowing what to focus on. In practice, families who do this either book fewer tutor hours or cover certain areas on their own without a tutor.
If you'd still like to hire a tutor for the harder areas, or want in-person support alongside online revision, here's what the iGCSE English tutor market in Hong Kong looks like.

How to choose the right iGCSE English tutor
Start with the syllabus. First Language English (Cambridge 0500 or Edexcel A and B) suits students who use English as their main academic language and need help with essay structure, precise reading and language accuracy. English as a Second Language (0510 or 0511) is aimed at students still building the language, with a heavier focus on comprehension and controlled writing; the 0511 variant counts a speaking component into the final grade. Literature (0475) is a separate exam with its own set-text demands, so a Literature tutor is often a separate hire from a Language tutor.
On format, online lessons via Zoom are universal and cheaper. In-person tutoring clusters around Central, Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Kwun Tong, Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok. Agencies with published centres (ITS, BartyED, HKETS, Bridge Elite, Hudson, All Round, NTK) charge a premium but offer consistency. Marketplace platforms (TigerCampus, GETUTOR, HKTA) are cheaper and more flexible but less curated.
Ballpark budgets: HK650 per hour on TigerCampus, from HK400 to HK550 to HK1,480 to HK$2,080 per hour at BartyED. Other premium centres are on enquiry.
