key tips for success

  • Complete fieldwork carefully

Paper 3 tests two fieldwork enquiries (physical + human). Take detailed notes during fieldwork days: methods, data, sampling, sketches, evaluation.

  • Learn 6-8 case studies

Prepare: 1 UK river, 1 UK coast, 1 UK city, 1 rainforest/desert, 1 LIC megacity, 1 tectonic hazard, 1 atmospheric hazard. Every extended answer rewards case study integration.

  • Master OS map skills

OS map skills come up across all 3 papers. Drill grid references, contours, distance, area until fast.

  • Practise extended-response essays

Extended answers reward: intro (define terms), 2-3 developed points with evidence, considered judgement. Practise until structure is automatic.

  • Drill statistical and graphical skills

Paper 3 heavily tests numerical and statistical skills: mean/median/mode, interquartile range, percentage change, graph interpretation. Drill these until fast and accurate.

  • Practise the synoptic questions

Paper 3 draws synoptically on content from Papers 1 and 2. Practise past-paper questions that require combining knowledge across topics.
