key tips for success
Learn the theme split
Theme 1 (Paper 1) is about small businesses starting up. Theme 2 (Paper 2) is about growing established businesses. The contexts differ, case studies on Paper 1 tend to be smaller.
Master financial calculations
Break-even, cash flow, gross and net profit margins, average rate of return, practise until automatic.
Build a case-study bank
Follow UK business news through the year (BBC Business, The Times). Have 5-6 well-known businesses (small and large) to reference in essay answers.
Structure evaluation answers
AO3 is 30% and rewards analysis and evaluation. Every long answer needs a defensible conclusion backed by weighed arguments.
Master the marketing mix
Product, price, promotion, place, with worked examples for each. The 4Ps recur across both papers.
Use past papers
Edexcel GCSE Business has years of past papers. Do timed practice through year 11.
