key tips for success
Prepare for the Paper 3 case study
Paper 3 is built around a case study delivered as a separate insert on the day. Practise reading unseen case studies quickly, then answering the five compulsory questions in the 1h 45m window.
AS content is assumed on A Level papers
Papers 3 and 4 assume you still know Papers 1 and 2 content. Revise the AS material as part of your A Level preparation.
Build a case-study bank
Follow global business news across sectors (FT, BBC Business, Bloomberg) throughout the year. A bank of ~10 well-known firms with details on strategy and performance is gold for A Level papers.
Practise strategic frameworks
SWOT, PESTLE, Porter's Five Forces, Ansoff's Matrix and Porter's generic strategies come up regularly. Know when each applies and how to apply them to unseen contexts.
Master the ratios
Gross profit margin, ROCE, current ratio, gearing, working capital cycle. Practise these until automatic so calculation questions become quick marks.
Know which route you're on
AS only, staged A Level over two years, or complete A Level in one series. Confirm which route with your school so you prepare the right papers.
