Question 1

How long does it take to memorise the International GCSE Physics vocabulary?

Accepted Answer

There's no fixed timeline that works for everyone, and it's a fair concern because the Physics content spans eight topic areas covering a lot of ground. The encouraging thing is that consistent, short sessions using spaced retrieval practice tend to produce far better results than a last-minute push close to the exam. Our flashcards are built around this idea: returning to cards you've found tricky at regular intervals helps the knowledge stick over time rather than fading between study sessions. We'd suggest working through a small batch of cards each day, building up your confidence topic by topic rather than trying to cover everything at once.

Question 2

How many flashcards should I do a day?

Accepted Answer

The honest answer is that consistency matters more than hitting a specific daily number, because spaced retrieval works by spreading your review out over time rather than cramming large batches in one go. We'd suggest starting with a comfortable number of our flashcards each day and gradually working through all eight Physics topics in the spec. When you return to cards you found tricky more often, the content tends to stick far more effectively than a single long session would achieve.

Question 3

Should I make my own Physics flashcards or use Cognito's?

Accepted Answer

Both approaches have real value, and the choice comes down to how much revision time you have available. Our flashcards cover the Physics content across all eight topics in the spec (from Forces and motion through to Astrophysics), so they save you the time of building a set from scratch. If you do want to make some of your own, we'd suggest focusing on the specific ideas you keep getting stuck on rather than rebuilding everything from the ground up. A useful hybrid is the blurt technique: read one of our flashcards, cover it, and write down everything you can recall before checking. When something keeps catching you out, writing your own card for that concept can help the knowledge stick in a way that passive reading rarely does.

Question 4

Which Pearson Edexcel Physics topics are flashcards best for?

Accepted Answer

Flashcards suit all eight Physics topics in this spec, but they give you the biggest return wherever the content is definition and equation-heavy. Topics like Waves (wave speed, the electromagnetic spectrum and its uses), Electricity (circuit rules, power equations and unit definitions) and Radioactivity and particles (types of radiation and their properties) involve the kind of precise recall that spaced retrieval practice is designed for. Our flashcards cover all eight topics, so working through them in short, regular sessions is a reliable way to build the fluent knowledge you need for the 2-hour paper.

Question 5

Why do I keep forgetting International GCSE Physics vocabulary?

Accepted Answer

Forgetting Physics vocabulary is completely normal, and it happens because passive review (reading your notes over and over) doesn't give your brain a strong enough reason to hold onto new terms. The fix is **active recall**: instead of re-reading a definition, you try to retrieve it from memory first, and that retrieval attempt is what makes the knowledge stick.

Our flashcards are built around this principle, covering the key terminology across all the Physics topics from forces and motion through to astrophysics, so you can test yourself rather than just re-read. We'd suggest working through a small set each day and spacing your sessions out over several days and weeks, which gives the vocabulary time to become genuinely embedded.
