Question 1

How long does it take to memorise the IGCSE Physics vocabulary?

Accepted Answer

Memorising Physics vocabulary for Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences (0654) takes different amounts of time for different students, and the honest answer is that no fixed timeline fits everyone. What matters far more than a schedule is consistency: returning to terms in short, regular sessions using spaced retrieval (testing yourself before you feel ready) is more effective than covering everything in one go.

Our flashcards are arranged by topic across the six Physics chapters (P1–P6), covering Motion, forces and energy through to Space physics, so you can work through the content in a structured sequence rather than feeling overwhelmed. We'd suggest aiming for a manageable batch of cards each day, spreading your practice across the weeks leading up to your exams. Most students find that after a few weeks of regular sessions, the vocabulary starts to feel much more secure.

Question 2

How many flashcards should I do a day?

Accepted Answer

There's no single number that suits every student, but the research consistently shows that regularity beats volume. Our flashcards are built around spaced retrieval, so a short, focused daily session will serve you far better than a long session crammed into the weekend. We'd suggest starting with a target that feels genuinely manageable and sustainable, then increasing the volume gradually as your papers get closer. Because your Co-ordinated Sciences qualification tests Biology, Chemistry and Physics together, keeping a daily habit across all three subjects will matter more than hitting any particular card count.

Question 3

Should I make my own Physics flashcards or use Cognito's?

Accepted Answer

Both approaches have real value, and many students find a hybrid works best for the 0654 Extended Physics content. Our flashcards cover the spec systematically across P1–P6, so you get complete coverage without the risk of missing something, which matters given that AO1 (knowledge with understanding) accounts for 50% of the qualification.

Making a handful of your own cards on the concepts you find trickiest is still worth the time, because the act of writing forces you to confront gaps in your understanding rather than just recognising answers on sight. A great companion to either approach is the blurt technique: put the card away, write down everything you can recall, then check against the card. We'd suggest starting with our flashcards to build solid coverage across all six Physics chapters, then adding your own for anything that still feels shaky.

Question 4

Which Cambridge International Physics topics are flashcards best for?

Accepted Answer

Flashcards work well across all six Physics chapters (P1–P6), but they earn their keep most in topics where the exam rewards precise definitions, key equations, and named facts rather than extended explanation. That covers a large part of the course: AO1 Knowledge with understanding accounts for 50% of the overall qualification, so there is a substantial core of recall-based content running through every chapter. Our flashcards are organised by topic, so we'd suggest using our by-topic view to work through each chapter in turn and flag anything that needs extra revisits. Pairing them with our exam practice is a great way to check that what you've recalled translates into actual marks on the page.

Question 5

Why do I keep forgetting IGCSE Physics vocabulary?

Accepted Answer

Forgetting vocabulary is really common in IGCSE Physics, and it usually comes down to one thing: reading over definitions isn't the same as retrieving them. Scientific vocabulary, terminology and conventions sit under AO1 (Knowledge with understanding), which makes up 50% of the marks in this qualification, so getting those definitions precise genuinely matters.

Our flashcards are built exactly for this, using spaced retrieval so that terms come back to you at the point you're just about to forget them. We'd suggest working through them topic by topic across P1–P6, trying to recall the answer before flipping rather than reading both sides at once. That small shift from passive to active makes a significant difference to how much sticks.
