Population distribution refers to the pattern of where people live across the world, whether viewed on a global, regional, or local level. This distribution is uneven, with some areas densely populated and others sparsely inhabited.
Understanding population distribution patterns
- Global scale - On a worldwide level, dense populations cluster in regions like Western Europe, the Indian subcontinent, Eastern China, and the eastern United States, while vast areas such as Northern Canada and the Sahara Desert remain almost empty.
- Regional scale - Within countries or continents, population often concentrates in specific zones, such as river valleys or coastal areas, due to favourable living conditions.
- Influencing factors - Distribution is shaped by a combination of natural environments, resource availability, and human activities.

Certain regions attract large numbers of people due to advantageous conditions that support habitation and economic activity.
