- Descriptive terms - Areas with high population density are described as 'densely populated', while those with low density are termed 'sparsely populated'.
- Limitation of averages - Population density represents an average across an area and does not reveal how people are distributed within that space. Two regions might share the same density but have vastly different patterns of settlement.
