How do I know if I've properly learned a topic in Mathematics?

A really reliable test is whether you can do three things with a topic, which mirror how AQA assesses you across the Higher papers. Can you recall the key facts and carry out the routine procedures accurately? Can you reason through a question, show your working clearly, and construct a sound argument? And can you apply the topic to an unfamiliar problem you haven't seen before?

How often should I quiz myself when revising GCSE Mathematics?

We'd suggest returning to each topic area more than once each week, spacing your attempts so you're testing yourself before the material is fully fresh in your mind. Our quizzes are built by topic, so you can work through Number, Algebra, Ratio, Geometry, Probability and Statistics in rotation rather than finishing one area and moving on permanently.

If you're targeting a grade 8 or 9 on Higher, paying extra attention to Algebra (which carries approximately 30% of the Higher tier assessment weighting) and Geometry or Ratio (each around 20%) will make your quiz time count most.

If you spot gaps, the notes become far more meaningful because you know exactly what to focus on.

That said, if a topic feels completely new to you, a quick read through Our notes first will give you enough vocabulary to make the quiz feel worthwhile rather than overwhelming. We'd suggest using Our by-topic view to keep notes and quizzes side by side so you can move fluidly between them as you work through each area of the spec.

AQA's actual exam questions are structured differently: each paper includes a mix of short single-mark questions and extended multi-step problems, with mathematical demand increasing as you progress through the paper. Questions can also draw on content from across different topic areas in the same question, so you need to connect ideas from Number, Algebra, Geometry, and the rest of the specification.

That means our quizzes are a great place to start, especially when a topic feels shaky. Once you've built that topic-level confidence, our exam practice is where you'll want to work through the cross-topic, multi-step problems that AQA sets.
