Question 1

How do I know if I've properly learned a topic in Biology?

Accepted Answer

Our quizzes are a great place to test this, because genuine mastery of a Biology topic means being comfortable across all three of CIE's assessment objectives. AO1 (worth 50% of the qualification) is about recalling and explaining content, so a first check is whether you can answer questions from memory without looking at your notes. AO2 (worth 30%) is trickier: it asks you to apply that knowledge to unfamiliar data or scenarios, so if you can work through an unseen context using what you know, that's a much stronger sign you've genuinely understood the material.

We'd suggest revisiting our quiz for the same topic a few days after first studying it as a spaced retrieval check. If you're still scoring confidently without refreshing your notes first, that's a reliable sign the content has stuck.

Question 2

How often should I quiz myself when revising IGCSE Biology?

Accepted Answer

The spacing between quiz sessions matters just as much as the sessions themselves, so a little-and-often approach tends to work much better than saving everything for one large revision block. Research on spaced retrieval shows that testing yourself at increasing intervals, then returning to the same material several times over subsequent days and weeks, helps information stick far more effectively than reviewing it once and moving on. CIE IGCSE Biology Extended covers a substantial amount of content across its 21 topic areas, so spreading your quizzing across the whole revision period really pays off.

Our quizzes are organised by topic, which makes it easy to revisit something you covered earlier in the week alongside new material you are working through now.

Question 3

Should I do a quiz before or after reading the notes?

Accepted Answer

Trying the quiz before reading the notes is genuinely worth doing, because research on pre-testing shows that attempting questions first primes your brain to pick up the right details when you read. Getting answers wrong at this stage is completely fine. Our quizzes help you spot exactly which topics in the CIE IGCSE Biology spec need more attention, so you can focus your time in our notes on the areas that need most work.

Quizzing yourself again afterwards is a great way to check the content has stuck, so we'd suggest using both steps as a pair rather than treating the quiz as a one-off activity.

Question 4

What's the difference between Cognito's quizzes and the actual exam questions?

Accepted Answer

Cognito's quizzes are designed for spaced retrieval practice, helping you test and reinforce your knowledge topic by topic as you revise, rather than replicating the exact style of CIE exam questions. In your actual Cambridge IGCSE Biology exams, Paper 2 (0610/2) presents 40 four-option multiple-choice questions in 45 minutes, while Paper 4 (0610/4) uses short-answer and structured questions across the full Extended content in 1 hour 15 minutes. Our quizzes are best used to build the secure topic knowledge that feeds into both of those paper types.

We'd suggest pairing them with our exam practice once a topic feels solid, so you also get comfortable with the structured written format that Paper 4 rewards.
