The three AQA assessment objectives give a useful benchmark: knowing the content (AO1) is just the starting point, but you also need to apply sociological theories and evidence to unfamiliar scenarios (AO2) and critically evaluate competing perspectives (AO3). A good self-check is whether you can explain a concept without your notes, connect it to the core themes of socialisation, culture and identity or social differentiation, power and stratification, and then compare theoretical views on it.

AQA's papers combine short answer and extended writing (Papers 1 and 3) or extended writing only (Paper 2), and they target three assessment objectives: AO1 knowledge and understanding, AO2 application, and AO3 analysis and evaluation. The extended writing questions ask you to build sustained arguments, make judgements and draw conclusions using sociological theories, concepts and evidence.
