How do I know if I've properly learned a topic in Physics?

A reliable sign that you've genuinely learned a topic is being able to retrieve the key ideas without prompting, not just recognise them when you see them. Our quizzes are designed to test exactly this, because answering questions from memory is far more revealing than re-reading your notes.

In CIE A-Level Physics, the exam tests both knowledge and understanding (AO1) and the ability to handle and apply information (AO2), so we'd suggest checking both sides: can you state the definition, and can you also work through a problem using it? If you're still hesitating or reaching for your notes mid-question, that topic needs a little more time. We'd suggest spacing your quiz attempts over a few days; if you can answer confidently and consistently after a gap, that's a strong sign the learning has genuinely stuck.

When you try to retrieve something you have not fully studied yet, your brain identifies gaps and pays closer attention to the relevant content when you then work through the material. We'd suggest trying a topic quiz first, then reading our notes to fill in what you missed, and finishing with another round of our quizzes to check how much has stuck. That cycle of quiz, read, quiz again tends to embed the content more deeply than reading alone.

The actual CIE 9702 assessment uses a range of formats: Paper 1 is 40 multiple-choice questions, while papers 2 and 4 use longer structured questions that ask you to calculate, explain, describe, sketch and justify using Cambridge's specific command words.
