When should I start doing AQA A-Level Mathematics past papers?

Topic-by-topic exam practice can start much earlier than most students expect, ideally from the moment you finish each area in class, working through past-paper questions on that topic while the content is fresh. This kind of spaced retrieval, returning to questions over time, is one of the most effective ways to build confidence across pure, mechanics and statistics. Our by-topic view lets you pull together AQA questions on a specific area, such as integration or hypothesis testing, as soon as you've covered it in lessons.

As your exams approach, we'd suggest saving a small number of complete papers (two or three is plenty) for the final weeks, so you can experience the full three-paper format under realistic conditions. Your school mocks are a great rehearsal for this too, so treat them seriously when they come around.

For AQA A-Level Maths (7357), each exam series gives you three papers to work through: Paper 1 (Pure Mathematics), paper 2 (Pure and Mechanics), and paper 3 (Pure and Statistics), each 2 hours long.

Yes! Working through past papers against the clock is genuinely valuable preparation, because each of your three AQA A-Level Maths papers runs for 2 hours and that pacing needs to feel comfortable before exam day.

We'd suggest saving fully timed attempts for once you've revised the relevant content using our notes and flashcards. That way, the paper is testing your recall rather than exposing gaps you haven't had a chance to address yet.

After each attempt, use active recall to go back over any topics where you dropped marks, rather than just reading through the mark scheme once, this is where the real learning happens.

Active recall (testing yourself before re-reading your notes) helps the content stick far better than passive re-reading. It's also worth remembering that each of the three papers draws on pure maths as well as either mechanics or statistics, so a low score might reflect a gap in just one area rather than across the whole course.
