- Cognitive redefinition - This technique provides clear information to help patients think rationally about pain, challenging irrational fears with positive self-statements. It has no side effects and promotes fearless thinking. However, it is less effective when fears are based on real past experiences.
Alternative treatments for pain relief
Alternative treatments offer non-traditional options for pain control, often drawing from holistic or physical stimulation methods. These can complement biological or psychological approaches and are explained by theories like the gate control theory of pain, which suggests that non-painful input can "close the gate" on pain signals in the spinal cord.
